Getting Started With Epic Seven

I started playing Epic Seven back when the server first launched. Three years in and I still log in daily, mostly because the habits are hard to break. This guide isn't going to flatter you. It's going to tell you what actually matters when you're starting out. The most important thing you'll learn is that gear matters less than people think. A lot of beginners obsess over getting perfect substats on their weapons before they've even cleared early campaign stages. Don't do that. Level your gear and put +9 or +10 on whatever you have until you're further along. The marginal gain from rerolling early gear isn't worth the time cost. I learned this the hard way after wasting about forty minutes rerolling a main stat weapon that ended up being useless two weeks later when I hit level 40 and needed something completely different. Characters are divided into classes: Sword, Axe, Hammer, Fist, Staff, Arrow, Wand. Each class counters another in a rock-paper-scissors arrangement that matters more in arena than in story mode. Story mode enemies don't use the same AI patterns as arena opponents, so don't expect your counter-picking to translate directly.

How to Manage Your Resources

You get limited hero stones from events and shop rewards. Don't pull on the standard banner unless you're saving up for a specific character you know you want. The limited banners offer better value if you actually need someone. Most veteran players keep their currency for epics banners where you can farm specific heroes with 50/50 pity systems. Cosmos boxes should be spent on awakening materials for characters you're actively using. You don't need five copies of every hero. One copy is fine for most units until they start running out of energy in longer fights. I keep one copy of most of my roster and save extra copies only for specific characters like Elodia or Tywin who benefit heavily from multiple awakenings. The arena ticket shop is probably the most overlooked free resource. Save your tickets and buy hero stones or gear mats from there instead of spending coins on anything else. Arena tickets accumulate faster than you'd think if you play regular arena every day.

Understanding Skill Upgrades

Skills upgrade with skill points earned through story completion and skill point vouchers. Vouchers come from events and the premium shop. Don't dump all your vouchers into one character early on. Spread them across three to four main DPS units you plan to keep long-term. Some skills look weak at low levels but scale dramatically at higher upgrades. Characters like Luminous Elias or Redfield feel completely different once their skills hit level 4 or above. Don't prematurely dismiss a character because their skills were mediocre before you upgraded them.

Team Building Basics

A balanced team needs a tank, a support, and damage dealers. The classic composition uses one sword or axe main DPS backed by buff support and a healer. Early game healers like Tien and Kalliel serve you well. Later you'll want characters like Elwin or Ceres for better sustain in harder content. Speed is the most underrated stat. You don't need 170 speed on everyone, but having your DPS faster than enemy tanks lets them attack before taking damage. A common mistake is building a slow team and wondering why you lose to faster opponents in arena. I spent weeks confused why my team kept losing until I realized my entire frontline was 20 speed points behind the enemy team.

What to Skip

Don't invest in gold gear until you have decent epic gear. Gold is expensive to upgrade and the stat differences become negligible at lower campaign levels. Epic gear with decent substats will serve you longer than perfect gold with nothing useful on it. The summoning tickets from the shop should be saved for epic banners. Standard banner tickets have worse drop rates for characters you actually want to use. I used to spend tickets on standard banners out of habit and only realized later I was getting far worse value.

Advanced Nuances Beginners Miss

Debuff resistance and debuff duration matter more than raw defense in later content. A character with 60% debuff resist takes significantly longer to fall to status effects than one with 100 more defense. This becomes critical in towers and arena where poison, paralysis, and stun can decide fights faster than raw damage numbers. Another thing nobody emphasizes enough is that skills with longer cooldowns hit harder overall. Don't favor low cooldown filler skills just because they feel more active. A three-turn skill that does massive damage every third turn usually outperforms a one-turn skill hitting every single turn when comparing total damage per energy spent. There's also the question of elemental affinity. Fire beats wind, wind beats water, water beats fire, and light and dark are neutral to each other but strong against both. This matters in arena team composition but less so in story mode where most enemies are fixed element types you can just overwhelm with raw power.

If you're stuck on a certain campaign stage, check if the enemy has high armor. Some stages feature armoured enemies that reduce physical damage by a significant percentage. Switch to a magic damage dealer or buff penetration instead of trying to brute force with physical attacks. I got stuck on stage 6-12 for two days because I was using physical attackers against an armoured boss, and then switched to a staff user and cleared it in ten minutes.
