So You Want to Play Getting Over It Without Paying
Getting Over It with Bennett Foddy is that indie climbing game where you shove a guy in a pot up a mountain using a hammer. The Steam version costs money. People have been looking for free ways to play it since 2018. I've tried every method out there because I went through the same frustration you're going through right now. The legitimate options are limited. The game was originally free on mobile, then put behind a paywall when it came to PC. Here's what I found working: Android APK method: The old mobile version still exists on various APK sites. It's an older build but it runs the same game. I pulled one from a well-known source and it worked fine on my phone. Performance is worse than the PC version though. The controls feel a bit floaty on touch. I had to calibrate my sensitivity in the settings just to get the hammer swings under control.
PC demos and forks: There isn't an official free PC version. What you'll find floating around are either demos (which are just the first section) or unofficial ports that people made. The community versions tend to have bugs. I ran into one where the save system would corrupt if you fell past checkpoint three. That's a real problem when you've been climbing for forty minutes. GOG alternative approach: GOG sometimes gives away premium games. Getting Over It hasn't shown up there for free, but watching for that possibility doesn't cost anything. I set a price tracker on a few sites and check once a week. The honest breakdown: the mobile APK is your best shot if you want zero cost. Expect slightly worse performance and touch controls. If you're on PC and want the actual experience, the $9.99 price tag is what keeps this legal. Everything else is piracy, and I won't link you to sketchy download pages because most of them bundle malware.
I learned the hard way that some "free" download sites were pushing adware that slowed my machine down to a crawl. Not worth the headache for a game you'll probably rage-quit anyway.
