Navigating the Coffee Shop Level

The layout for the coffee shop is actually one of the more linear levels in the game, but there are a few hidden exits that trip people up. I got stuck on this one for about two hours last month when I was testing the walkthrough for a friend. The main issue is that the coffee machine counts as an interactive object but doesn't actually open any new passage. You have to examine it anyway to get the clue about the back storage room, then use the steam pressure reading on the machine to unlock the vent behind the espresso unit. Start by entering from the front door. The first room has a counter, a few tables, and a menu board. Look at the menu board and select the caramel macchiato option. This triggers a conversation with the barista NPC who will hand you a receipt. The receipt has a four-digit code written in invisible ink that you can read by examining it near the window light. That code opens the register. Inside the register you find a key card labeled "Staff Only." This card unlocks the door behind the counter that leads to the preparation area. The prep area has three possible directions. Left goes to the walk-in freezer which is a dead end unless you have the ice scraper from the first room. Right leads to the dishwashing station where you can find a small hex key under the sink. Straight ahead is the back exit which is locked.

The trick most players miss is that the hex key opens a panel on the wall near the coffee machines. Behind that panel is a short cut passage that bypasses the freezer entirely and leads to the storage room. In the storage room you collect the bag of beans, and examining the beans gives you the final exit code. The code prints on the label of a specific bean bag and it opens the rear emergency exit. I ran into a bug on my third playthrough where the invisible ink on the receipt wouldn't reveal the code no matter how many times I examined it near the window. What I found was that the game checks whether you had previously looked at the menu board in a specific order. You need to look at the seasonal drinks section before the regular menu. Once I re-read the board in that sequence the receipt code appeared immediately. This seems like an edge case but I hit it again on a fresh install so it is not a one-time glitch. One thing worth noting is that the hex key in the dishwashing station is easy to overlook because it is tucked behind a stack of drying trays. The game does not highlight it with a cursor change unless your character's inventory is below six items. If your inventory is full the hex key will not appear as examineable. This is a deliberate design choice to prevent players from grabbing the key too early, but it means you should clear out unnecessary items before heading to the prep area. Dispose of any extra cups or napkins you picked up earlier.

The level takes roughly twelve to fifteen minutes on a first run if you know the path. Players who miss the menu board ordering or the hex key panel usually spend twenty-five to thirty minutes going in circles. The walkthrough helps cut that down significantly, but there is no skip function in the game itself so you have to figure out the puzzles manually regardless. A couple of other notes. The walk-in freezer has a temperature mechanic. If you enter without the ice scraper you will lose health over time and the game forces you to leave. There is no combat in this level so you cannot fight through it. The rear exit code can also be entered manually if you find a crumpled note on the floor near the trash cans in the main dining area, but the note is easy to miss because it blends into the background texture. Either method works but the bean bag route is more reliable since the note can sometimes fail to spawn depending on your save state. If you get completely stuck the most common spot is the prep area where three doors create a loop. The left door to the freezer is the only optional path. Skip it. Go right for the hex key, then straight to the locked door, use the key card, open the wall panel, and you are done.
