Getting Everything Out of Honkai: Star Rail

Most players stop at what the game hands them on a platter. The Trailblaze Mission takes you through the narrative, you pull some characters from the banner, and then you wander around the open zones checking off visible objectives. That gets you roughly 60 to 70 percent completion by the time you finish the main story. Hitting 100 requires a different approach because HoYoverse designed a lot of the content to be hidden behind systems that do not announce themselves. Completion in Star Rail is tracked by the System under Achievement, but that only counts about 150 out of roughly 500 to 600 total objectives depending on how you count. The real 100 percent number includes Exploration, Character Collection, Light Cone Collection, Forgotten Hall and Simulated Universe completions, Story and Event Milestones, and various side activities that the UI refuses to aggregate into a single percentage. I spent about forty hours chasing the second version of this after realizing my first run through was missing entire categories. The number most guides show as completion is just the Achievement count, which is misleading. A proper walkthrough needs to account for every collectible, every domain, every quest line, and every rotation system in the game.

The Systems You Need to Track

Star Rail splits its content across several independent progression tracks. They do not share resources, and completing one does not meaningfully advance the others. You have to treat them separately. Trailblaze Level governs your Adventure Rank and unlocks systems like the Simulated Universe and certain Exploration milestones. This is the only number you need to raise through normal play, but it does not automatically give you everything else. Exploration Levels are tied to each map zone independently. Jarilo-VI, Xianzhou Luofu, and Penacony each have their own progress. Exploration Level caps are not visible in the menu until you complete all Treasure Chests, Hidden Quests, and Puzzle Boxes in a region. The cap for Jarilo-VI is 10, Luofu is 10, and Penacony is 10. Each level grants Stellar Jade and crafting materials.

Achievement Points are a separate tracker that most players mistake for total completion. They represent roughly 25 percent of the actual content volume. Character Completion is straightforward. As of July 2026, there are roughly 80 to 90 playable characters depending on whether you count limited 5-star units from events versus banner releases. You cannot obtain everyone through standard pulls. Limited characters only appear on their banners for approximately two weeks per release, and HoYoverse has not indicated plans for a permanent character showcase pool for most of them.

The Hidden Layers That Bump You Toward 100 Percent

The first thing most beginners miss is the Interaction system. Every major zone has hidden interactable objects. Pressing the ability key near suspicious crates, broken pots, or odd glowing spots triggers environmental puzzles. Some of these are obvious. Others require you to stand at a specific angle or wait for an NPC to finish moving out of the way before the interaction prompt appears. I spent three hours on a single chest in the undercity of Jarilo-VI because a merchant NPC was blocking the line of sight to a switch. Walking around him in third person revealed the prompt he was obscuring. The second layer is the series of post-story quests that unlock after completing the Chapter 2 Trailblaze Mission. These are not flagged as Trailblaze Missions in the quest log. They appear as random encounters or dialogue triggers once you reach a certain Trailblaze Level. The Xianzhou Luofu has a particularly dense cluster of these. I missed them entirely on my first run and came back two weeks later after a community post pointed out that the character Dan Heng's hidden quest line requires you to talk to an NPC near the Sky-Faring Commission who has a yellow exclamation mark that only appears after completing the main Luofu storyline. The Simulated Universe is its own completion bucket. Clearing all Gold Path stages, collecting every Wisdom Orb, and unlocking every Enigma Scroll is a separate grind from anything else in the game. The gold path requires clearing multiple waves with specific conditions. I ran into a wall where my teams kept failing on wave six due to weakness break requirements I had not accounted for. The workaround was building a dedicated team around Break Effect rather than raw damage, which is counter-intuitive if you are used to standard combat builds.

Practical Completion Strategy

Start by running the Trailblaze Mission straight through without skipping any dialogue. Dialogue contains triggers for side quests and hidden NPC interactions. Use the map and enable the Explore tab, which shows chests and interactables that are not yet discovered. Do not leave a zone until every circle on the map is filled. Then move to achievements. The achievement list is your actual checklist. Sort by category. Completionist achievements are grouped together and they cover the bulk of the remaining content. Some achievements require actions that conflict with each other, like completing all Simulated Universe runs with different character restrictions. Plan those sessions back to back rather than scattering them across weeks. For character collection, prioritize the permanent banner characters first. Those are always available. Limited characters require monitoring the official announcement schedule. There is no way to accelerate their availability.

The Forgotten Hall requires rotating team compositions every two weeks. Each chamber has specific buffs and debuffs. The easiest path to clearing it fully is maintaining three balanced teams rather than trying to flex one team through every floor. I found that splitting my roster into a pure Break team, a DoT team, and a direct damage team covered every chamber composition without needing to rebuild between floors.

What This Approach Does Not Solve

There is no legitimate path to 100 percent character collection without spending thousands of dollars or waiting years for reruns that may never happen. Some limited characters have appeared in event pools once, but not consistently. The game does not promise a pity transfer or a permanent re-release schedule. Simulated Universe gold path completion requires specific relics with Break Effect and Energy Regen substats, which is a relic roll dependency. If your inventory lacks viable gear, this part of completion stalls regardless of your team composition knowledge. The alternative is investing in the Golden Apple Subspace area within Simulated Universe, which is faster for most players but does not count toward the same achievement tier. Event content that is time-limited will expire. If you are chasing 100 percent in a season and an event ends before you can finish it, that portion is gone until the next cycle, which may not exist for that event type. I lost a handful of achievements from the Golden Hour event because I did not clear the final stage before the server reset. Nothing in the game warns you about this beforehand.

The most realistic expectation is that you can reach roughly 95 percent of all trackable completion content through standard play and careful tracking. The remaining gaps are either time-gated, currency-gated, or permanently locked behind limited availability windows. The System completion number shown in-game will eventually show close to 100 if you check every category over multiple seasons, but character collection and certain event achievements may remain incomplete indefinitely without additional purchases or luck with reruns.
