Getting Herbalism from 1 to 375 in TBC
The fastest route isn't the one most people take. I spent about six hours testing different herb runs across Outland before I settled on what actually moves the needle. The short version: stick to the zones with dense respawn points, ignore the scattered herbs that look tempting, and do not use a flight path between every zone because the travel time eats more of your day than you think. I'm going to walk through the leveling path I used, where the pain points are, and the one edge case that cost me a solid two hours before I figured it out.
Tbc Herbalism Leveling Guide
Here's the actual route. Start in Terokkar Forest around the Marshlands area. There are maybe two dozen Sunflower nodes crammed into a small enough area that you can cycle through them without running more than thirty seconds between picks. Hit 75 there. From 75 to 125, move to Zangarmarsh. Thickore and Glowcap are the targets. The southeast quadrant near the Telredor flight point has the highest density. You'll see other players here. That's normal. Don't fight over nodes. Just wait ten seconds for a respawn and keep moving. At 125, you unlock Frostweed. That's when the game actually opens up. Tanaris back in Kalimdor has the best concentration, but you have to fly there. I recommend doing the farm at 125, then flying to Tanaris around skill 130 so you're already geared for the next tier. Ice Thistle and Mountainspring are your main picks there until about 175.
175 to 225 is where most people stall. Sweet Fleabane in Silithus is the answer. It's in the Hailwood area near Cenarion Hold. The nodes respawn fast. I kept a stack of minor healing potions on hand because the wandering quillrats will interrupt you if you're low health, and dying while herb gathering is probably the most annoying thing in the entire game. Nothing wastes time like a twenty-minute corpse run. 225 to 275 goes back to Outland. Netherweed spawns in Blade's Edge Mountains and Nagrand. Nagrand has better clustering. Stick to the central valley near the Shattered Sun Staging Area. You'll find about six to eight nodes within a hundred yard radius at any given time. This is where the 275 break into Obsidian Sage becomes relevant. Keep gathering Netherweed until you hit the threshold, then start prioritizing Obsidian Sage nodes wherever you see them. 275 to 300 is Ghost Mushroom in Shadowmoon Valley. The nodes are spread out compared to earlier zones, which means more running. I found it faster to loop the entire northern section clockwise rather than zigzagging. One full loop takes roughly four minutes and gets you about eight to ten picks.

300 to 350 is Golden Sansam in Zangarmarsh. The mushroom nodes are under the ground near the Sporeggar area. They respawn slower than most plants, so patience is required. I timed it and the average respawn is about two minutes per node. Don't stand still and stare at a single spot. Rotate through three or four nearby nodes instead. 350 to 375 is Heartthrob in Netherstorm. This is the endgame. The herb is rare and the nodes are guarded by higher-level mobs. I recommend clearing a path first before you start gathering. A couple of chains pulls took me down from 372 to 368 once, which set me back an hour. Once you've secured a safe loop around the Tempest Ridge area, Heartthrob nodes are plentiful enough to finish out the skill.
Timing breakdown
Here's what the total time actually looks like based on my runs. Terokkar to Zangarmarsh: about forty-five minutes. Zangarmarsh to Tanaris: roughly twenty minutes of travel plus an hour of farming. Silithus: fifty minutes. Back to Outland for Blade's Edge and Nagrand: an hour and fifteen minutes total. Shadowmoon: forty-five minutes. Zangarmarsh again for Ghost Mushroom: forty minutes. Netherstorm finish: thirty minutes. Your total time from zero to 375 on a fresh character should land somewhere between four and five hours if you aren't waiting for other players or dying repeatedly. The biggest one I see people make is trying to level Herbalism alongside a dungeon run or questing grind. It doesn't work well. You'll miss nodes, you'll die more often, and you'll end up with maybe two hundred skill points instead of three hundred and seventy-five. Set aside a clean block of time and just gather. Another mistake is ignoring the cooldown on professional tools. If your first tool breaks at skill 200, you lose about ten minutes while you buy or craft a replacement. Keep two spare tools in your bag at all times after hitting 150. I lost a full twenty minutes once because I ran out and had to go back to a vendor in Blade's Edge. The trip alone took longer than the tool replacement would have.
You also shouldn't skip the skill-up books. There are a couple sitting in major cities that give small boosts. Using them at the right thresholds saves you from grinding a few extra nodes in each zone. It's minor, but it adds up over the full climb.

When this guide won't help you
If you're playing on a heavily populated server, the dense zones will have long wait times between respawns because everyone is using the same spots. In that case, switch to the quieter zones and accept that it will take longer. I had one session where Zangarmarsh had so many herbalers that I spent more time waiting than actually gathering. I moved to Tanaris instead and finished that tier in half the expected time. Also, if you don't have a mount unlocked yet, skip the Silithus and Netherstorm sections. Walking those zones as a non-mounted character will double your time and make the whole process miserable. Get a mount first if you can. Finally, don't try to sell everything you pick. The gold you make from early herbs barely covers the cost of tools and travel. Focus on finishing the skill first. Selling happens after.
