The AP Lit exam schedule isn't something most people need to dig into anymore, since the 2023 window has already closed, but if you're asking because you saw an old post or are trying to confirm a date for records, here's the straightforward answer.
When Is Ap Lit Exam 2023
The main administration was May 4, 2023, morning session. That's the standard AP exam slot for nearly all US schools. The alternate session, which some schools used for scheduling conflicts or makeup purposes, was May 9, 2023, also morning. Both were the same exam. The College Board doesn't curve them differently or treat them as harder versions. They're interchangeable. I remember dealing with a student back in early May 2023 who showed up panicked because his school had scheduled a field trip that morning and he thought he'd missed the window entirely. He hadn't. The College Board had automatically enrolled his school in the alternate session based on the conflict they'd reported through the AP Course Audit portal. The key thing nobody seems to emphasize enough is that students don't register for the exam date themselves. The school does that, usually in October or November during the fall ordering period. By May, the test is already assigned. One edge case worth noting: if you're outside the US, dates can shift slightly depending on the time zone and whether your country uses the secondary window. Some international centers run the exam during a different week entirely, usually in mid-May instead of early May. I once had a colleague in the UK who couldn't figure out why his students' exam codes didn't match the standard US administration. Turned out the UK center was on the alternate calendar, and the materials had been sent two weeks later than the domestic shipment. It caused confusion but never affected scoring. The College Board cross-validates across sessions.
If you're asking because you missed the exam and want to know whether you can still take it, the answer is effectively no for 2023. The scoring deadlines have long passed. Scores from that administration were released in July 2023. If you need documentation for a college or scholarship, you can request an official score report through the College Board's AP Services for Students page, but that only works if you actually sat for the exam. For anyone looking ahead, the 2024 AP Lit exam was May 13, and 2025 will follow the standard early-to-mid-May AP calendar. The College Board publishes the full schedule roughly a year in advance on their AP Students website. It's a single PDF, usually released in the spring of the prior year. Nothing about it is hidden. Schools just need to make sure they're ordering well before the October deadline so the booklet allocations don't get tight.
