black label society logo: Reinventing Metal Neil Daniels, 2000-01-01 Pantera is widely regarded as one of the most influential and revered American metal bands of the past 20 years. Although its output was relatively short – from 1983 to 2000 it released only nine studio albums – its impact on the metal scene since the band split up in 2003 is still felt to this day. Guitarist Dimebag Darrell was tragically killed in 2004 but his legacy remains undiminished. Pantera had an enormous influence on nu-metal, groove metal, metalcore, and grindcore and continues to be publicized and written about. Its 1990 breakthrough album Cowboys from Hell is still regarded as one of the greatest metal albums in history, as is Pantera's sixth opus, Vulgar Display of Power. Previously, the band had been associated with the glam metal scene, but as 1987 saw the release of many important thrash albums by such bands as Slayer and Metallica, Pantera recruited underground metal fan Phil Anselmo and changed its image and sound to something more aggressive, becoming a thrash-groove metal crossover band. With a wide array of research and many first-hand interviews with those who knew the group well, Reinventing Metal is an unauthorized, first-ever biography that focuses on the entire band – from its Texas high school start to the global mega-success that anchored Pantera as one of the most important metal names ever.

Book 2 in the Irrevocable Duet. I thought I was done. my End I couldn't take my eyes off her as the bullet tore through me, leaving me with nothing but the hope that I had done enough to save her. The darkness tried to engulf me--to brand me as its own and drag me to my fate. my Darkness Waking to see her tear-stained face above me was enough to make my heart stutter. I was alive and free from that place--but not from the toll it had taken on my mind and body. My story should have ended, but one woman kept standing in the way of that. my Strength The only way I could have her was to find a way to put the darkness to rest. Sins of Ashville Irrevocable Unbreakable Insurmountable Redline She-Devil ★ All Sins of Ashville works contain dark elements, themes, or situations that may be triggering for some readers, so proceed with that in mind. The heroes and heroines (or anti-hero and anti-heroines, as the case may be) must fight and sacrifice for their survival and happy endings. If you're looking for rainbows and sweet nothings, Ashville is not the place for you, but if you want to explore the nature of human resilience and emotional extremes, jump in and enjoy the ride.   black label society logo: Sabbath Bloody Sabbath Joel McIver, 2014-08-11 Joel McIver's acclaimed Black Sabbath biography, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, concluded in 2011 that its subjects were at a crossroads. Could Ozzy, Tony, Geezer and Bill manage after over 40 years in business to get back together one more time? After all, the veteran heavy metal musicians were grieving for their fallen comrade Ronnie James Dio and about to face a devastating medical diagnosis for one of their own. McIver's brand-new, updated volume brings the story up to date with the tale of Sabbath's near-miraculous return to form with the Rick Rubin-produced 13 album, which topped charts worldwide on its release in 2013. In true Sabbath style, however, nothing went entirely to plan, with internal arguments, last-minute band-member replacements -- and a genuine fear that this may be Sabbath's very last shot at glory.
black label society logo: RELUCTANCE John O'Loughlin, 2022-04-12 This autobiographical-cum-philosophical journal is effectively the sequel to 'Limitless' (2012), since it continues from where the previous such project leaves off, being in many respects its logical corollary. Not only is the autobiography taken beyond the situation that existed towards the close of 2012, but so, too, in a number of ways is the philosophy, so that one gets a fuller perspective on both the subjective and objective, the personal and vocational aspects of the writer's life that both complements and resolves the subject matter of its prequel, taking it to a new level in a similar, albeit stylistically different, vein to the way that 'Fixed Limits' (1976) went beyond 'Changing Worlds' (1976) and somehow resolved many of its outstanding issues, since effectively existing within the context of a 'changed world' from that in which John O'Loughlin had previously lived. – A Centretruths Editorial

black label society logo: No Encore! Drew Fortune, 2019-07-16 “They hated us and started throwing cups, bottles, change, chairs, and anything that wasn’t nailed down.” —Dean Ween This hilarious, sometimes horrifying, collection spans four decades and chronicles the craziest, druggiest, and most embarrassing concert moments in music history—direct from the artists who survived them. “In the midst of my insanity, I thought it would be a very romantic gesture to go into Fiona Apple’s dressing room and write a message on her wall in my own blood.” —Dave Navarro From wardrobe malfunctions to equipment failures, from bad decisions to even worse choices, this is a riveting look into what happens when things go wrong onstage and off. “Ozzy had a sixty-inch teleprompter with the song lyrics, and that got stolen, along with microphones, snare drums and cymbals. Our drummer at the time was stabbing people in the neck with his drumstick.” —Zakk Wylde No Encore! is an unflinchingly honest account of the shows that tested the dedication to a dream—from Alice Cooper’s python having a violent, gastric malfunction on stage to Lou Barlow’s disastrous attempt to sober up at Glastonbury, from Shirley Manson’s desperate search for a bathroom to the extraordinary effort made to awaken Al Jourgenson as Ministry was taking the stage. As Hunter S. Thompson famously wrote, “Buy the ticket, take the ride.” “I go to exit the venue, and there’s 25 people marching towards us. It’s about 3:00 AM, and they weren’t there to be nice. They were carrying bats, boards, chains, hammers, and they were coming for us.” —Dee Snider

black label society logo: Jim Marshall - The Father of Loud Rich Maloof, 2003-12-01 In the early 1960s, a handful of brash British kids needed a new sound for a new kind of music. They marched into a music store in their blue-collar town and asked the gentleman behind the desk to build them an amplifier with leg-shaking power and jaw-dropping tone. So he did. This first-ever biography tells the story of Jim Marshall – founder of Marshall Amplification and creator of guitar amplifiers that have defined the sound of rock and are prized by rock guitarists of every age and style – from his childhood when he was diagnosed with a rare bone disease that confined him to a body cast for nine years, to his stage success as a crooner and big-band drummer, through his development of the “Marshall Stack” and ultimate rise to the forefront of the music instrument industry. Forty years after Jim Marshall sold his first JTM45, three generations of guitarists and fans revere the name. Highlights in Marshall history, images of amp anatomy, details about famous players' preferred models, and testimonials from guitar stars round out this engrossing success story. Full-color photos throughout. “What Jim marshall did ... was provide English heavy metal and blues players of the mid '60s and early '70s with these weapons.” – Pete Townshend
