Plus we cover the ins and outs of admissions and financial aid. Each guide also includes an index of all schools with the most pertinent facts, such as contact information. And we've topped it all off with our school-says section where participating schools can talk back by providing their own profiles.   blackshear family practice nahunta: Looking for Longleaf Lawrence S. Earley, 2009-07 Covering 92 million acres from Virginia to Texas, the longleaf pine ecosystem was, in its prime, one of the most extensive and biologically diverse ecosystems in North America. Today these magnificent forests have declined to a fraction of their original extent, threatening such species as the gopher tortoise, the red-cockaded woodpecker, and the Venus fly-trap. Lawrence S. Earley explores the history of these forests and the astonishing biodiversity within them, drawing on extensive research and telling the story through first-person travel accounts and interviews with foresters, ecologists, biologists, botanists, and landowners. The compelling story Earley tells here offers hope that with continued human commitment, the longleaf pine might not just survive, but once again thrive.

blackshear family practice nahunta: Ecology of a Cracker Childhood Janisse Ray, 2023-07 From the memories of a childhood marked by extreme poverty, mental illness, and restrictive fundamentalist Christian rules, Janisse Ray crafted a “heartfelt and refreshing” (New York Times) memoir that has inspired thousands to embrace their beginnings, no matter how humble, and to fight for the places they love. This new edition updates and contextualizes the story for a new generation and a wider audience desperately searching for stories of empowerment and hope. Ray grew up in a junkyard along U.S. Highway 1, hidden from Florida-bound travelers by hulks of old cars. In language at once colloquial, elegiac, and informative, Ray redeems her home and her people, while also cataloging the source of her childhood hope: the Edenic longleaf pine forests, where orchids grow amid wiregrass at the feet of widely spaced, lofty trees. Today, the forests exist in fragments, cherished and threatened, and the South of her youth is gradually being overtaken by golf courses and suburban development. A contemporary classic, Ecology of a Cracker Childhood is a clarion call to protect the cultures and ecologies of every childhood.

blackshear family practice nahunta: Graball Road: The Story of the Great Lincoln County Gold Train Robbery of 1865 Bob Young, 2019-02-11 The events of May 24, 1865 in Lincoln County, Ga., spawned a legend that has taken on a life of its own. A wagon train loaded with nearly a half million dollars in gold coins is robbed in the middle of the night, apparently by Confederate veterans, who believe the stash to be the remnants of their failed government's treasury. The hunt for the thieves and their loot is an adventure of its own, but a Union general's use of torture on a prominent family only serves to inflame the local population and to heat up already volatile tempers. GRABALL ROAD is the true story behind the Legend of the Confederate Gold. Decide for yourself whether a pot of Confederate gold lies buried somewhere deep in this river valley.

blackshear family practice nahunta: Cats and Dogs Robie Madison, 2005-10-07 Hotshot marketing consultant Dane McAndrews always goes after what he wants. When a freak storm strands him at a motel, he makes certain he shares the one room left at the inn with a mystery woman who looks like a drenched mouse. But appearances can be deceiving and Dane's testosterone skyrockets when his lover removes her drab overcoat and produces a pair of silk scarves. The biggest risk consultant Leigh Goodwin has taken recently is to leave a job before she's too badly burned. Oh yes, and commission a tattoo at the base of her spine. So she can't explain the wild impulse that drives her to proposition a stranger into creating her private fantasy-one in which she has total control over his body. When Leigh discovers that her coworker on her latest project is none other than her mystery lover, she's determined to ignore the reality of their attraction for the sake of her job and business reputation. But, like a dog with a bone, Dane is equally determined to persuade his prissy coworker to unleash her inner wildcat.

blackshear family practice nahunta: Paternalism in a Southern City Edward J. Cashin, Glenn T. Eskew, 2012-02-01 These essays look at southern social customs within a single city in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. In particular, the volume focuses on paternalism between masters and slaves, husbands and wives, elites and the masses, and industrialists and workers. How Augusta's millworkers, homemakers, and others resisted, exploited, or endured the constraints of paternalism reveals the complex interplay between race, class, and gender. One essay looks at the subordinating effects of paternalism on women in the Old South--slave, free black, and white--and the coping strategies available to each group. Another focuses on the Knights of Labor union in Augusta. With their trappings of chivalry, the Knights are viewed as a response by Augusta's white male millworkers to the emasculating maternalism to which they were subjected by their own wives and daughters and those of mill owners and managers. Millworkers are also the topic of a study of mission work in their communities, a study that gauges the extent to which religious outreach by elites was a means of social control rather than an outpouring of genuine concern for worker welfare. Other essays discuss Augusta's aristocracy of color, who had to endure the same effronteries of segregation as the city's poorest blacks; the role of interracial cooperation in the founding of the Colored Methodist Episcopal Church as a denomination, and of Augusta's historic Trinity CME Church; and William Jefferson White, an African American minister, newspaper editor, and founder of Morehouse College. The varied and creative responses to paternalism discussed here open new ways to view relationships based on power and negotiated between men and women, blacks and whites, and the prosperous and the poor.

blackshear family practice nahunta: A Journey Beyond George Ross Freeman, 2001 Freeman spent much of his life working with others to enable pastors, empower laity, strengthen small-membership churches, and champion United Methodist Men. Written at the request of the United Methodist Men to affirm the ministry of men, this autobiography traces movements in which he has been a participant for more than fifty-two years under appointment. As the need for military chaplains created a shortage of pastors, Freeman left Mercer University during World War II to accept responsibility for nine churches on the Georgia coast. During his appointments at this and other pastorates, he began his pursuit to build rural communities through rural churches. This passion led to his first leadership role in the South Georgia Conference as president of the Methodist Rural Fellowship. He eventually retired as editor of the Wesleyan Christian Advocate. Freeman's journey from boy evangelist, preaching in abandoned churches and at backyard revivals, to Methodist leader and commentator is, without doubt, inspirational to all and is evidence of his unique talent and drive.
