closed chevron process diagram: Handbook of Petroleum Refining Processes, Fourth Edition Robert A. Meyers, 2016-03-18 This fully revised resource presents the latest technologies and processes for petroleum refining from the world’s leading producers. Handbook of Petroleum Refining Processes has become a key reference in the chemical and petroleum engineering markets. The book is unique in that it presents licensable technologies for the refining of petroleum and production of environmentally acceptable fuels and petrochemical intermediates. The new edition covers the gamut of global refining technologies in light of recent changes to the sources of these fuels, as well as the most up-to-date global environmental regulations. Contributions come from such major licensors of petroleum refining technology as UOP, Inc., Shell, ExxonMobil Research and Engineering Company (EMRE), Chevron Lummus Global, Phillips 66, Belco, BP, and others. The new edition shifts its emphasis to accommodate the increased production of shale gas and shale oil which is changing the overall mix of hydrocarbon feeds. Declining conventional crude production and the need for regional energy independence continues to drive demand to use lower-cost, alternate feedstocks such as coal, shale oil, and heavy crude. To use alternate feedstocks in existing refineries, many processes need to be modified. The increase in diesel demand and stricter fuel specifications is driving refiners to look for ways to produce higher yields from existing assets. The book reflects these factors, plus the increase in residue conversion; hydrocracking evolving as a primary conversion process; and hydrotreating increasing as a way to treat virgin and cracked middle distillate streams. Offers detailed description of process chemistry and thermodynamics and product by-product specifications of plants Contributors are drawn from the largest petroleum producers in the world, including Chevron, Shell, ExxonMobil, and UOP Covers the very latest technologies in the field of petroleum refining processes and the shift toward shale gas and oil A complete listing and explanation of licensable global technologies for the refining of petroleum and the production of environmentally acceptable fuels and petrochemical intermediates Provides product-by-product specifications and process economics – capital investment annualized capital costs and the price range for each product

closed chevron process diagram: Ludwig's Applied Process Design for Chemical and Petrochemical Plants Incorporating Process Safety Incidents A. Kayode Coker, 2024-07-10 Ludwig's Applied Process Design for Chemical and Petrochemical Plants Incorporating Process Safety Incidents is ever evolving starting with the first edition some 60 years ago. The volumes in this fifth edition provide improved techniques and fundamental design methodologies to guide the practicing engineer in designing process equipment and applying chemical processes to the properly detailed hardware. As indicative of the new title, process safety incidents are incorporated in many of the chapters, reviewing the root causes, and how these could be mitigated in future. Like its predecessor, this new edition continues to present updated information for achieving optimum operational and process conditions and to avoid problems caused by inadequate sizing and lack of internally detailed hardware. The volumes provide both fundamental theories where applicable and direct application of these theories to applied equations essential in the design effort. This approach in presenting design information is essential for troubleshooting process equipment and in executing system performance analysis. Volume 1B continues to cover mixing of liquids, process safety and pressure[1]relieving devices, metallurgy and corrosion, and process optimization. It builds upon Ernest E. Ludwig's classic text to further enhance its use as a chemical engineering process design manual of methods and proven fundamentals. This new edition includes new content on three-phase separation, mixing of liquids, ejectors, and mechanical vacuum systems, process safety and pressure-relieving devices, metallurgy and corrosion, and optimization of chemical process/blending. Some chapters review pressure-relieving devices and provide case studies for process safety incidents, which are well illustrated from US Chemical Safety Hazard Investigation Board (www.csb.gov). Finally, this book contains a glossary of Petroleum and Petrochemical Terminologies and Physical and Chemical Characteristics of Major Hydrocarbons.? Provides improved design manual for methods and proven fundamentals of process design with related data and charts? Covers complete range of basic day-to-day petrochemical operation topics? Extensively revised with new material added on three-phase separation, metallurgy, and corrosion? Process safety management/HAZOP and hazard analyses, and optimization of chemical process/blending?   closed chevron process diagram: Advanced Biological Treatment Processes Lawrence K. Wang, Nazih K. Shammas, Yung-Tse Hung, 2010-03-10 The past 30 years have seen the emergence of a growing desire worldwide that positive actions be taken to restore and protect the environment from the degrading effects of all forms of pollution—air, water, soil, and noise. Because pollution is a direct or indirect consequence of waste, the seemingly idealistic demand for “zero discharge” can be construed as an unrealistic demand for zero waste. However, as long as waste continues to exist, we can only attempt to abate the subsequent pollution by converting it to a less noxious form. Three major questions usually arise when a particular type of pollution has been identi?ed: (1) How serious is the pollution? (2) Is the technology to abate it available? and (3) Do the costs of abatement justify the degree of abatement achieved? This book is one of the volumes of the Handbook of Environmental Engineering series. The principal intention of this series is to help readers formulate answers to the last two questions above. The traditional approach of applying tried-and-true solutions to speci?c pollution problems has been a major contributing factor to the success of environmental en- neering, and has accounted in large measure for the establishment of a “methodology of pollution control. ” However, the realization of the ever-increasing complexity and interrelated nature of current environmental problems renders it imperative that intelligent planning of pollution abatement systems be undertaken.

closed chevron process diagram: Energy Resources and Systems Tushar K. Ghosh, Mark A. Prelas, 2009-06-04 In the lifetimes of the authors, the world and especially the United States have received three significant “wake-up calls” on energy production and consumption. The first of these occurred on October 15, 1973 when the Yom Kippur War began with an attack by Syria and Egypt on Israel. The United States and many western countries supported Israel. Because of the western support of Israel, several Arab oil exporting nations imposed an oil embargo on the west. These nations withheld five million barrels of oil per day. Other countries made up about one million barrels of oil per day but the net loss of four million barrels of oil production per day extended through March of 1974. This represented 7% of the free world’s (i. e. , excluding the USSR) oil production. In 1972 the price of crude oil was about $3. 00 per barrel and by the end of 1974 the price of oil had risen by a factor of 4 to over $12. 00. This resulted in one of the worst recessions in the post World War II era. As a result, there was a movement in the United States to become energy independent. At that time the United States imported about one third of its oil (about five million barrels per day). After the embargo was lifted, the world chose to ignore the “wake-up call” and went on with business as usual.

closed chevron process diagram: Industrial Aromatic Chemistry Heinz-Gerhard Franck, Jürgen W. Stadelhofer, 2012-12-06 Aromatic organic hydrocarbons and heterocycles represent a bulk of about one third of all industrially produced organic basic materials. Aromatic compounds such as benzene, phenol, naphthalene, anthracene, and their homologues, are derived from raw materials, coal, crude oil and biogenic resources by thermal and catalytic refining processes. This book introduces the chemistry of aromatics with a brief discussion of the aromatic character and a survey of historical aspects, particularly the development of the organic dye industry during the 19th century. The main emphasis of the book is to give a clear prospect of industrial processes for the production and the derivatisation of aromatics with consistent flow diagrams. Economical aspects of by- and side-products are especially regarded. For the most important aromatics an analysis of the international market included their derivatives: polymers, pesticides, dyes, pigments and drugs. Professional scientists, managers and students in chemistry and chemical engineering will find a wealth of information for their career and daily work.
