coldest temperature in nj history: History of Jacksonville, Florida and Vicinity, 1513 to 1924 T. Frederick Davis, 2021 Two times there was a wholesale destruction of Jacksonville's official records – in the War Between the States and by the fire of May 3, 1901. The author's effort in this work was to collect all of the available authentic matter for permanent preservation in book form. The record closes as of December 31, 1924. The record is derived from many sources – long forgotten books and pamphlets; old letters and diaries that have been stored away as family memorials of the past; newspapers beginning with the St. Augustine Herald in 1822 (on file at the Congressional Library at Washington) fragmentary for the early years, but extremely valuable for historical research; almost a complete file of local newspapers from 1875 to date; from the unpublished statements of old residents of conditions and outstanding events within the period of their clear recollection; and from a multitude of other sources of reliability. The search through the highways and the byways for local history was in the spare moments of the author stretching over a period of a score of years, a pastime hobby with no idea of making money out of it. No attempt has been made to discuss the merits of any incident, but only to present the facts, just as they were and just as they are, from the records and sources indicated. |

coldest temperature in nj history: Central Florida Weather - Hurricanes and Great Freezes: A Historical Overview Stewart Dunaway, 2019-04-18 This book provides general history on the tropical cyclones and great freezes that impacted - Central Florida. General history means a brief overview using primary (accurate) information to define (as best as can be found) each event - be that hurricane/tropical storm or freeze/snow storm. Orlando, Florida was my home town, and the general landscape was changed by a sequential set of killer freezes. From orange groves to subdivisions - these weather events certainly altered the State. When researching cold weather events, it was interesting to find a number of snow storms that impacted both Central Florida as well as the entire state. Information was found for cold-weather from 1765 and ends in 1991. As to tropical systems, the data was more difficult to find, but includes a few older storms from 1871 and ends in 1995. |
coldest temperature in nj history: Deadly Cold Jed O'Dea, 2014-10-29 The earths average temperature suddenly dropped 20 degrees. Staying warm became critical, so why would some organization want to destroy our ability to stay warm? Literally millions of people will freeze to death unless Tucker and Maya uncover the mystery in time. We, the people of this planet, Earth, were unprepared. We had no defense against the confluence of events that transpired. We were vulnerable to natural events and a psychopath who took advantage of our vulnerabilities. A year of evilness damn near killed us all. |

coldest temperature in nj history: The Minorities of Cyprus Nicholas Coureas, Marina Elia, Andrekos Varnava, 2009-05-27 This book examines the various minorities living in the island of Cyprus from the early modern (late Venetian and early Ottoman) period down to the present day. It charts their history, with special emphasis on their relations with the powers ruling Cyprus and with the two dominant Christian-Greek and Muslim-Turkish communities. The theme running through the book is that despite being significant members of Cyprus’ society, the three historical minorities (Maronites, Armenians and Latins) were only included in society to a certain extent by the two major communities. This was formalised in the post-independence (1960) period when they were compelled to become members of either dominant community and thus they suffered ‘internal exclusion’ by being regarded as religious sub-groups of one of the two dominant communities rather than national minorities in their own right. Within this general context, the social, legal and political roles, customs, culture and language of the various minorities are examined as they evolved through time and in response to internal and external developments affecting Cyprus in the political, economic and global spheres. They are discussed not as static entities, but as evolving groups that have adapted with greater or lesser degrees of success to the radical and at times painful changes Cyprus has undergone, especially over the last 150 years, in all walks of life. Finally, the question of what the future holds for the minorities of the island in the light of Cyprus’ EU membership and the prospect of reunification are also analysed. This book is a product of the conference “Minorities of Cyprus: Past, Present and Future”, which was held on 24 and 25 November 2007 at the European University Cyprus. |
