bredt's rule organic chemistry: Advanced Organic Chemistry Francis A. Carey, 2013-06-29 The purpose of this edition is the same as that of the first edition, that is, to provide a deeper understanding of the structures of organic compounds and the mechanisms of organic reactions. The level is aimed at advanced undergraduates and beginning graduate students. Our goal is to solidify the student's understanding of basic concepts provided in an introduction to organic chemistry and to fill in much more information and detail, including quantitative information, than can be presented in the first course in organic chemistry. The first three chapters consider the fundamental topics of bonding theory, stereochemistry, and conformation. Chapter 4 discusses the techniques that are used to study and characterize reaction mechanisms. The remaining chapters consider basic reaction types with a broad coverage of substituent effects and stereochemistry being provided so that each reaction can be described in good, if not entirely complete, detail. The organization is very similar to the first edition with only a relative shift in emphasis having been made. The major change is the more general application of qualitative molecular orbital theory in presenting the structural basis of substituent and stereoelectronic effects. The primary research literature now uses molecular orbital approaches very widely, while resonance theory serves as the primary tool for explanation of structural and substituent effects at the introductory level. Our intention is to illustrate the use of both types of interpretation, with the goal of facilitating the student's ability to understand and apply the molecular orbital concepts now widely in use.

bredt's rule organic chemistry: Organizing Organic Chemistry Jeongbin Park, 2024-06-04 The Laboratory Reactions edition describes organic reactions that occur under strong reaction conditions, offering fundamental concepts of organic chemistry. It serves as an essential guide for students and professionals in organic chemistry, providing a comprehensive overview of both fundamental and advanced organic reactions. Designed to facilitate learning and practical application, this book bridges the gap between theoretical concepts and real-world practice. In Laboratory Reactions, readers will find a well-structured and detailed exploration of organic reactions, starting with basic principles and progressing to more complex topics. Each chapter is carefully written to make complex concepts easy to understand with the help of illustrative examples, often with YouTube clips, and useful chemoinformatics applications with Python codes. I opened a blog called “Jeongbin’s Study Room” to collect knowledge from many people. The enthusiasm for organic chemistry is still strong today, but a few years ago, it was significant, as organic chemistry was essential for various exams. Since studying organic chemistry in elementary, middle, and high school was rare, I anticipated a significant academic demand for organic chemistry. Therefore, since 2018, I have been sharing articles on organic chemistry on “Jeongbin’s Study Room” and communicating, correcting, and discussing with people. I have had many discussions online with medical professionals, pharmacists, lawyers, current teachers, and professors, among others. Now, as we welcome the new year 2024, I declare that the compilation of organic chemistry knowledge through collective intelligence is complete and I am publishing this book. I hope that this book can lower the barrier of organic chemistry as a field of study.

bredt's rule organic chemistry: Foundations of Organic Chemistry David R. Dalton, 2011-07-12 This book differs from other organic chemistry textbooks in that it is not focused purely on the needs of students studying premed, but rather for all students studying organic chemistry. It directs the reader to question present assumptions rather than to accept what is told, so the second chapter is largely devoted to spectroscopy (rather than finding it much later on as with most current organic chemistry textbooks). Additionally, after an introduction to spectroscopy, thermodynamics and kinetics, the presentation of structural information of compounds and organic families advances from hydrocarbons to alcohols to aldehydes and ketones and, finally, to carboxylic acids.

bredt's rule organic chemistry: Tools of Organic Chemistry Ajnish Kumar Gupta, Bharti Gupta, 2020-05-04 The guiding principle in writing this book was to create a textbook for students- a textbook that presents the material in a way that they learn to solve all the questions along with the strategy to approach the problems. In this book we mixed all our teaching experience of 15 years along with theoretical and experimental knowledge to generate a hand book for all students to reason their way to a solution rather than memorize a multitude of facts, hoping they don’t run out of memory. This book covers mainly 4 units with 61 sections which are real tools of Organic chemistry, which a students must know before dealing any chemical reactions. Organic chemistry is very easy and conceptual subject and need proper understanding of the basics and strategy to solve the questions in correct manner. This book will prepare your right mindset for learning Organic Chemistry. This mindset is essentially the one that focuses you on a small number of straight forward, repeated, fundamental concepts and helps you to apply them in different ways to solve the variety of problems you face in organic chemistry. This book is complete as it not only covers theory in proper sequence but also provide varieties of questions along with 10 test papers to judge your knowledge before going to start chemical reactions. In this book balance has to be achieved between the number of questions and the quality of the questions, especially because it is relatively easy to frame a very large number of multiple-choice questions and theory of the subject. The questions in this book have been selected keeping three things in mind. First- The questions are such that they really test the understanding of the subject. Second- The questions cover all concepts. Third- The number of questions has been kept large enough to offer meaningful practice to the students.
bredt's rule organic chemistry: A Foundation Course for College Organic Chemistry B. S. Balaji, 2024-08-22 To understand and improve the underlying principles that govern how organic reactions occur, A Foundation Course for College Organic Chemistry follows a brick-by-brick building approach. However, despite the lightheartedness, the book does not lose its purpose, which is to serve as a source of information on this particular subject of organic chemistry. The book, arranged into themes, discusses some organic compounds and how they are named based on their structure, makeup, and components. The text also explains the use of Greek and Latin prefixes in nomenclature and many other principles in nomenclature. The book also includes an appendix that contains very useful information on nomenclature, such as the etymology of certain element and chemical names, numerical prefixes, and the Greek alphabet. This book deals with bridgehead olefins, which helps to shed light on structure-activity relationships for this most basic functional group. Organized into four chapters, this volume begins with an overview of the involvement of planar, delocalized transition states to account for bond shifting in cyclooctatetraenes, which faces explicit problems in rationalizing the universally low energy demands. This text then examines the carbon-carbon double bond, which is the most ubiquitous functional group in organic chemistry. Other chapters consider the condensed polycyclic benzenoid aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), which is a subset of the multifarious class of polynuclear aromatics. This book discusses as well the problem of categorizing the molecular structures of PAHs. The final chapter deals with the reactions and synthesis of Dewar furan. This book is a valuable resource for organic chemists.
