Version 1.0, published June 26, 2024 Macs are generally quite reliable computers, but things still can and do go wrong. When you encounter an error message, an ornery app, or other unwanted behavior, don't panic. Take a deep breath and turn to the expert advice in Take Control of Solving Mac Problems. This book—which replaces, updates, and extends Joe's earlier books Take Control of Maintaining Your Mac, Take Control of Troubleshooting Your Mac, and Take Control of Speeding Up Your Mac—is a complete guide to both preventing and solving Mac problems. You'll learn how to think like a technician, use powerful tools and techniques, and cope with surprises. The book covers three distinct areas. Maintain Your Mac Perform preventive maintenance steps that will reduce the likelihood of problems—and make it easier to recover if something does go wrong: • Make sure macOS and other software is up to date. • Free up disk space and reduce clutter. • Learn about backups, creating a troubleshooting account, and other measures to take before disaster strikes. • Explore third-party maintenance apps that may simplify common operations. • Follow a simple, ongoing maintenance routine. Troubleshoot Mac Problems The heart of the book is about diagnosing problems and finding solutions: • Learn 14 useful troubleshooting techniques that you can apply to a wide range of issues. • Find ready-to-use solutions to 25 common Mac problems. • Discover how to approach novel or unusual problems without obvious remedies. • Understand the best (and worst) ways to search for help online. • Figure out when it's time to seek professional help, and where to find it. Speed Up a Slow Mac Learn what to do if individual apps bog down or your entire system seems sluggish: • Find out what to do if web browsing is unusually slow. • Get to know Activity Monitor to find out what's going on under your Mac's hood. • Learn ways to reduce CPU and RAM usage. • Find memory leaks and tame background processes. • Determine your options for hardware upgrades when software fixes aren't enough. That's just a taste of the extensive material in this detailed, 188-page book. It's designed for Macs running macOS 11 Big Sur or later, including macOS 12 Monterey, macOS 13 Ventura, macOS 14 Sonoma, and macOS 15 Sequoia. browse version history greyed out mac: The Book of Mac Donna-Claire Chesman, 2021-10-26 An album-by-album celebration of the life and music of Mac Miller through oral histories, intimate reflections, and critical examinations of his enduring work. “One of my most vivid memories of him is the way he would look at you while he was playing you a song. He tried to look you right in the eyes to see how you were feeling about it.” —Will Kalson, friend and first manager Following Mac Miller’s tragic passing in 2018, Donna-Claire Chesman dedicated a year to chronicling his work through the unique lens of her relationship to the music and Mac’s singular relationship to his fans. Like many who’d been following him since he’d started releasing mixtapes at eighteen years old, she felt as if she’d come of age alongside the rapidly evolving artist, with his music being crucial to her personal development. “I want people to remember his humanity as they’re listening to the music, to realize how much bravery and courage it takes to be that honest, be that self-aware, and be that real about things going on internally. He let us witness that entire journey. He never hid that.” —Kehlani, friend and musician. The project evolved to include intimate interviews with many of Mac’s closest friends and collaborators, from his Most Dope Family in Pittsburgh to the producers and musicians who assisted him in making his everlasting music, including Big Jerm, Rex Arrow, Wiz Khalifa, Benjy Grinberg, Just Blaze, Josh Berg, Syd, Thundercat, and more. These voices, along with the author’s commentary, provide a vivid and poignant portrait of this astonishing artist—one who had just released a series of increasingly complex albums, demonstrating what a musical force he was and how heartbreaking it was to lose him. “As I’m reading the lyrics, it’s crazy. It’s him telling us that he hopes we can always respect him. I feel like this is a message from him, spiritually. A lot of the time, his music was like little letters and messages to his friends, family, and people he loved, to remind them of who he really was.” —Quentin Cuff, best friend and tour manager |

browse version history greyed out mac: The Connected Company Dave Gray, Thomas Vander Wal, 2012-08-30 The future of work is already here. Customers are adopting disruptive technologies faster than your company can adapt. When your customers are delighted, they can amplify your message in ways that were never before possible. But when your company’s performance runs short of what you’ve promised, customers can seize control of your brand message, spreading their disappointment and frustration faster than you can keep up. To keep pace with today’s connected customers, your company must become a connected company. That means deeply engaging with workers, partners, and customers, changing how work is done, how you measure success, and how performance is rewarded. It requires a new way of thinking about your company: less like a machine to be controlled, and more like a complex, dynamic system that can learn and adapt over time. Connected companies have the advantage, because they learn and move faster than their competitors. While others work in isolation, they link into rich networks of possibility and expand their influence. Connected companies around the world are aggressively acquiring customers and disrupting the competition. In The Connected Company, we examine what they’re doing, how they’re doing it, and why it works. And we show you how your company can use the same principles to adapt—and thrive—in today’s ever-changing global marketplace. |

Information literacy is as important as traditional reading literacy and it incorporates a wide range of skills which are essential in the modern world. Many of the skills already feature in the curriculum, though because they are not usually brought together, too often there is no coherent approach to how they are learned. They are relevant to every teacher and every pupil; they feature in every curriculum subject; they are cross-curricular in every sense - yet because they belong to everyone they are owned by no-one. Duncan Grey This fascinating and innovative book contains a variety of strategies to help teachers develop students' information and literacy skills. Accessible and entertaining, Duncan Grey's superb guide brims with practical strategies and lesson ideas to help every student to answer every question! |

browse version history greyed out mac: History of Computer Graphics Dan Ryan, 2011-04-14 This book reflects the many changes that computer graphics technology has under gone in my working life time. I graduated from a teachers college in 1963. There was not a computer of any kind on campus, imagine my shock when my very first college employer (Omaha University) required me to know something about an IBM 1620 and a key punch machine! The first part of this book is an account of that experience at Omaha University and later the Nebraska of Nebraska at Omaha. When I moved to Clemson University in 1976, they had a computer and a large Calcomp Plotter but nothing else in the way of computer graphics hardware or software. So, except for a few short sections in chapter one, this history begins with the events of 1963 and proceeds to document what happened to computer graphics for engineering design and manufacturing as practiced by an engineer or technician at Clemson University. The next section of the book contains my experiences as a self-employed consultant (1993-present), my consulting started in 1984 after I completed a PhD in Data Systems Engineering. In 1993, I left full time teaching and became Professor Emeritus at Clemson University. I wanted to start my own consulting company, DLR Associates. Oddly enough, most of my first consulting in computer graphics took place in the Omaha and Pennsylvania areas - not South Carolina. My contacts came from my paper presentations at various ASEE meetings and the annual national distance learning conferences held at the University of Maine. I took a year off to accept a Fulbright Scholarship Nomination from the University of Rookee, India. I was listed as an international member in the Who's Who Directory of the computer graphics industry. In a nut shell, that is who I am. Why, then, did I decide to write this book? |

She couldn’t decide what was more depressing—the state of her marriage, or the fact that she lived in Jersey City instead of Manhattan. Until meeting her husband, she’d lived the most cliché life. She’d come from a small town in Canada that smelled like fish or manure, depending on the season. She’d fallen in love with the boy down the road, and she had a dog. Her life had been unbearably predictable—until one snowy New Year’s Eve, a tall, dark, and handsome stranger from New York City walked into her life. Her debut book, No One Brings You a Casserole When Your Husband Goes to Rehab, is a poignant coming-of-age story about curly-haired boys and the dark side of having your dreams come true. From poufy dresses and a whirlwind romance to considering when it was time to jump into the Hudson River, Leah candidly tells of her personal transformation through her husband’s struggle with addiction.
