buckle up it's the law: Unthinking Harry Beckwith, 2011-01-26 What do Howard Hughes and 50 Cent have in common, and what do they tell us about Americans and our desires? Why did Sean Connery stop wearing a toupee, and what does this tell us about American customers for any product? What one thing did the Beatles, Malcolm Gladwell and Nike all notice about Americans that helped them win us over? Which uniquely American traits may explain the plights of Krispy Kreme, Ford, and GM, and the risks faced by Starbuck's? Why, after every other plea failed, did Click It or Ticket get people to buy the idea of fastening their seat belts? To paraphrase Don Draper's character on the hit show Mad Men, What do people want? What is the new American psyche, and how do America's shrewdest marketers tap it? Drawing from dozens of disciplines, the internationally acclaimed marketing expert Harry Beckwith answers these questions with some surprising, even startling, truths and discoveries about what motivates us. |

buckle up it's the law: The Con and the FBI Agent David Nadolski, 2022-02-15 While FBI Agent David Nadolski risked his career, his informant, Anthony Romano risked his life to quash one of the biggest armed robberies of the twentieth century. During the 1990’s Boston was a world leader in arts, culture, higher education, and medicine. It was also a world leader in organized crime. In this exciting account, former FBI supervisory special agent David Nadolski tells the story of an unlikely alliance between two diametrically opposed people—the con and the FBI agent. While investigating a break-in at the Stone Library in Quincy, MA that houses the personal book collection of John Quincy Adams, the FBI gets a call from prison inmate, Anthony (Tony) Romano, requesting to meet with the case agent on the burglary. Romano provides a helpful tip that leads to the apprehension of the thief and the recovery of four priceless, historically significant books. Recognizing Tony’s potential, Nadolski begins to cultivate a relationship in hopes of recruiting Romano as a criminal informant. Nadolski recruits Romano to play a very dangerous game—infiltrate the Merlino gang, controlled by Carmello Merlino, a career criminal who specialized in bank robberies, armored car robberies, and home invasions. The Merlino gang also became suspects in the largest art theft in history which took place at the Isabella Stuart Gardner Museum in Boston and remains unsolved to this day. Romano, a former armed robber, agrees. With sights set on the Loomis Fargo Armored Car Company money vault, located south of Boston, the Merlino gang gets to work. Little did they know, Romano, at great personal risk, was a wearing a wire and recording their planning sessions. After two years of being joined at the hip and learning to trust each other unconditionally, special agent Nadolski and Romano run a successful criminal investigation and undercover sting operation to catch four dangerous criminals poised to launch one of the biggest armed robberies of the twentieth century. |
buckle up it's the law: The SAGE Handbook of Social Marketing Gerard Hastings, Kathryn Angus, Carol Bryant, 2011-11-15 For the first time, this benchmark handbook brings together a systematic framework and state-of-the-art thinking to provide complete coverage of the social marketing discipline. It presents a major retrospective and prospective overview of social marketing, helping to define and shape its current and future developments by: - examining the defining elements of social marketing, their intellectual origins, evolution, current status and direction of travel; - discussing how these have been used in practice, emphasising emerging areas and recent innovations; and - setting the agenda for future research and development in the discipline. For academics, this book will fill the gap in comprehensive social marketing literature, while being of interest to policymakers and post-graduate marketing and health studies students alike as it explores the idea that tools used to market fast-moving consumer goods and financial services can also be applied to pressing social problems. |

buckle up it's the law: Dying Is No Big Deal C. Joseph Socha, 2002-10-08 Dying Is No Big Deal is the title of one of the stories in this book, an international contest winner, and it titles the book. The author uses a technique he calls VISUAL writing that he developed as an audio-visual writer. He uses a camera point of view to set scenes, always aware of the picture that is registering on the readers mind. Action is quick and continues like a newsreel. The stories are much like video dramas. Lengths are ideal for a quick read during the day or at bedtime. |

buckle up it's the law: I Drink for a Reason David Cross, 2009-08-31 The star and creative force behind Mr. Show and Arrested Development pens his first and final book, chronicling his meteoric rise and abysmal fall in the literary world. After a decade spent in isolation in the Ugandan jungles thinking about stuff, David Cross has written his first book. Known for roles on the small screen such as never-nude Tobias Funke on Arrested Development and the role of David in Mr. Show With Bob And David, as well as a hugely successful stand-up routine full of sharp-tongued rants and rages, Cross has carved out his place in American comedy. Whether deflating the pomposity of religious figures, calling out the pathetic symbiosis of pseudo-celebrity and its leaching fandom, or merely pushing the buttons of the way-too-easily offended P.C. left or the caustic, double-standard of the callous (but funnier) right, Cross has something to say about everyone, including his own ridiculous self. Now, for the first time, Cross is weaving his media mockery, celebrity denunciation, religious commentary and sheer madness into book form, revealing the true story behind his almost existential distaste of Jim Belushi (The Belush), disclosing the up-to-now unpublished minutes to a meeting of Fox television network executives, and offering up a brutally grotesque run-in with Bill O'Reilly. And as if this wasn't enough for your laughing pleasure in these troubled times, some of the pieces splinter off with additional material being created online in exclusive video and animated web content created solely for the book-a historical first (presumably)! With a mix of personal essays, satirical fiction posing as truth, advice for rich people, information from America's least favorite Rabbi and a top-ten list of top-ten lists, I Drink for a Reason is as unique as the comedian himself, and cannot be missed. |

buckle up it's the law: Finding the Right Mate Gilbert Edwards, 2011-02-04 The author will try to explain and encourage those that are seeking to marry that marriage is a holy estate instituted by God. Marriage was ordained for the life-long companionship, help and comfort which husbands and wives ought to have for each other. The authors deepest focus points are: Life-long Marriage and Finding the Right Mate. Many married couples do not keep the marriage vows they made. Because of that, I recommend marital counseling before marriage. The author does not focus too much on divorce because of his disbelief in divorce. It was Moses that executed the bill of divorce. He did it to protect the women because husbands would divorce their wives for anything just to marry another woman. Women have a moral personality and are not a thing that men may hand over to another, and then take her back again at his pleasure. The author believes there is not law instituting or commanding divorce. Most people use Matthew 19:9, where Jesus was only explaining what Moses meant. The marriage that God wants is a marriage of a life-long commitment; a forever happy home! |

buckle up it's the law: American Holocaust Tim O'Donnell, 2000-12 American Holocaust will lead the reader down the road of logic to the conclusion that the victimless crime laws are hate crimes against humanity. The United States, with a rate of incarceration ten times that of countries which use criminal laws only for victim crimes, is currently the world's greatest religious persecutor of moral minorities. So far, the American Holocaust has taken 1,500,000 lives and is currently taking lives at the rate of 19,000 per year. Of the 2,000,000 current prisoners in the United States, 1,000,000 of the convicts are in jail to convince them to convert to the religious morality of the majority, and 800,000 prisoners are real criminals who were created by the recidivism of previously incarcerated victims of the victimless crime laws. The price of victimless crime laws in the United States to both the American voter perpetrators and to the victims, is not only in lives but also in massive human suffering and trillions of dollars. |
