The intent of the tool is to analyze the impact of a trend to the actual business situation of the corporation, and to help the management to formulate and to establish counter measures within a scenario planning. To prove its applicability, the GET scarcity of resources is used to demonstrate how the shortage of oil is affecting a virtual corporation that is operating within the chemical industry, which is a recent problem to business planning in the industry. Using the concept of corporate evaluation, which is introduced within the assessment framework, potential risks are identified. By this means, external risks are mapped to the internal environment of the corporation and countermeasures are developed. |

Corporate governance is a process (journey) of managing corporate affairs to create shareholder value and protect interests of other stakeholders. This book presents a road map for various functions and measures of corporate governance. The participants in the corporate governance process are the board of directors, executives, stakeholders, internal and external auditors, financial analysts, legal counsel, and regulators. This book is organized into four separate volumes; each volume can be utilized separately or in an integrated form. The first volume consists of five chapters that address the relevance and importance of corporate governance as well as the framework and structure of corporate governance. The second volume consists of four chapters that present the three prevailing corporate governance functions of oversight, management, and monitoring. The third volume consists of four chapters that address corporate governance functions performed by corporate gatekeepers, including policy makers, regulators, standard-setters, internal auditors, external auditors, legal counsel, and financial advisors. The fourth volume consists of five chapters that address the emerging issues in corporate governance, including governance for private companies and nonprofit organizations and convergence in global corporate governance. |

business development vs corporate development: The Continuity and Discontinuity of the 250 Largest Enterprises in Germany Maximilian Lantelme, 2023-10-01 This book studies the long-term development of the 250 largest family and non-family enterprises in Germany between 1958 and 2018. In particular, the continuities and discontinuities of the companies’ ownership structure, operations and solvency are examined. Historical methods are used to advance the understanding of the attributed long-term orientation of family firms in family business research. The collected data of the 250 largest enterprises of 1958 provide the most comprehensive historical overview of the industrial landscape of this period. The long-term analyses show that more than half of the companies fail and less than a quarter keeps their ownership structure in the observation period of 60 years. In this timeframe, family-owned businesses have relatively stable ownership structures and superior survival rates compared to public companies although the latter experience higher growth rates. A listing of a family firm leads to the discontinuity of the family’s majority ownership in the mid- to long-term. Furthermore, company types like foundation-owned enterprises and foreign subsidiaries show even higher survival rates. The book closes with practical implications based on the identified development patterns of the surviving and failed enterprises. |
