cacfp civil rights training quiz: Nutrition and Healthy Aging in the Community Institute of Medicine, Food and Nutrition Board, 2012-06-15 The U.S. population of older adults is predicted to grow rapidly as baby boomers (those born between 1946 and 1964) begin to reach 65 years of age. Simultaneously, advancements in medical care and improved awareness of healthy lifestyles have led to longer life expectancies. The Census Bureau projects that the population of Americans 65 years of age and older will rise from approximately 40 million in 2010 to 55 million in 2020, a 36 percent increase. Furthermore, older adults are choosing to live independently in the community setting rather than residing in an institutional environment. Furthermore, the types of services needed by this population are shifting due to changes in their health issues. Older adults have historically been viewed as underweight and frail; however, over the past decade there has been an increase in the number of obese older persons. Obesity in older adults is not only associated with medical comorbidities such as diabetes; it is also a major risk factor for functional decline and homebound status. The baby boomers have a greater prevalence of obesity than any of their historic counterparts, and projections forecast an aging population with even greater chronic disease burden and disability. In light of the increasing numbers of older adults choosing to live independently rather than in nursing homes, and the important role nutrition can play in healthy aging, the Institute of Medicine (IOM) convened a public workshop to illuminate issues related to community-based delivery of nutrition services for older adults and to identify nutrition interventions and model programs. Nutrition and Healthy Aging in the Community summarizes the presentations and discussions prepared from the workshop transcript and slides. This report examines nutrition-related issues of concern experienced by older adults in the community including nutrition screening, food insecurity, sarcopenic obesity, dietary patterns for older adults, and economic issues. This report explores transitional care as individuals move from acute, subacute, or chronic care settings to the community, and provides models of transitional care in the community. This report also provides examples of successful intervention models in the community setting, and covers the discussion of research gaps in knowledge about nutrition interventions and services for older adults in the community.

cacfp civil rights training quiz: Vibrant and Healthy Kids National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, Health and Medicine Division, Board on Population Health and Public Health Practice, Committee on Applying Neurobiological and Socio-Behavioral Sciences from Prenatal Through Early Childhood Development: A Health Equity Approach, 2019-12-27 Children are the foundation of the United States, and supporting them is a key component of building a successful future. However, millions of children face health inequities that compromise their development, well-being, and long-term outcomes, despite substantial scientific evidence about how those adversities contribute to poor health. Advancements in neurobiological and socio-behavioral science show that critical biological systems develop in the prenatal through early childhood periods, and neurobiological development is extremely responsive to environmental influences during these stages. Consequently, social, economic, cultural, and environmental factors significantly affect a child's health ecosystem and ability to thrive throughout adulthood. Vibrant and Healthy Kids: Aligning Science, Practice, and Policy to Advance Health Equity builds upon and updates research from Communities in Action: Pathways to Health Equity (2017) and From Neurons to Neighborhoods: The Science of Early Childhood Development (2000). This report provides a brief overview of stressors that affect childhood development and health, a framework for applying current brain and development science to the real world, a roadmap for implementing tailored interventions, and recommendations about improving systems to better align with our understanding of the significant impact of health equity.

cacfp civil rights training quiz: The Seal of Biliteracy Amy J. Heineke, Kristin J. Davin, 2020-02-01 This edited volume examines the Seal of Biliteracy (SoBL), a relatively new policy initiative that has received little attention in scholarly and practical literature. The contributions seek to expand the literature by presenting case studies of policy implementation in diverse contexts across the United States. This book is organized into four sections: (1) introduction to the SoBL, including history of the policy initiative and national trends in policy design and implementation, (2) case studies of macro-level policy implementation, including a diverse array of contexts across the country that have approached the SoBL in unique ways (e.g., legislation v. educational code, prioritizing world v. home languages), (3) case studies of micro-level implementation, including schools and districts that award the SoBL to diverse student populations through various language programs (e.g., English-dominant v. linguistically diverse; world language v. dual-language programs), and (4) conclusions and future directions, including actionable next steps for policy makers, administrators, educators, and researchers. Members of various professional organizations will benefit from this text, including the National Association for Bilingual Education (NABE), Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL), the American Council for Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL), as well as participants in local affiliates for bilingual, English as a second language (ESL), and world language education.

cacfp civil rights training quiz: Housing New York 2.0 , 2017 Since Mayor de Blasio launched the Housing New York Plan in 2014, New York City has accelerated the construction and preservation of affordable housing to levels not seen in 30 years. We are on track to secure more affordable housing in the first four years of the Administration than in any comparable period since 1978. The City has tripled the share of affordable housing for households earning less than $25,000. Funding for housing construction and preservation has doubled, as have the number of homes in the City’s affordable housing lotteries each year. Hundreds of once-vacant lots have affordable homes rising on them today. Reforms to zoning and tax programs are not just incentivizing, but mandating affordable apartments—paid for by the private sector— in new development. --Page 4.
cacfp civil rights training quiz: Cybertraps for Educators 2.0 Frederick S Lane, 2020-09-09 Mobile devices and social media have changed all of our lives, but no profession has been quite as affected as teaching. It's not just the challenge of incorporating technology into the classroom; it's how digital communication tools have changed the relationship of teachers with the school communities they serve. Cybertraps for Educators 2.0 is a detailed look at those changes and the risks posed to both educators and students. Every single week, a teacher or school administrator somewhere in the United States is fired for something they said on social media. More and more school districts face litigation arising out of smartphone-abetted sexual assault cases. Teachers are surrounded every day by young investigative reporters carrying sophisticated recording devices connected to global distribution platforms. And now, thanks to the worldwide pandemic, more and more education is occurring online -- with enormous implications for educator privacy, student-teacher relationships, and professional ethics. Cybertraps for Educators 2.0 is the guide that administrators and teachers need to avoid the potentially career-ending mishaps that can result from the use and misuse of digital devices. Using contemporary case studies, this timely book illustrates the pitfalls of technology and offers practical advice on how teachers, administrators, and school districts can minimize the risks of misconduct. Throughout the book, author Frederick Lane weaves in principles and standards drawn from the Model Code of Ethics for Educators (MCEE). The MCEE was promulgated by the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC) in 2015 and is the first attempt to develop a national code of ethics for educators. Lane's innovative book, Cybertraps for Educators 2.0, is the first to apply the MCEE to major issues facing the teaching profession.

cacfp civil rights training quiz: Watch, Wait , and Wonder Elizabeth Muir, Mirek Lojkasek, Nancy J. Cohen, 1999 Research at the Hincks-Dellcrest Centre has shown that the Watch, Wait, and Wonder (WWW) approach is very effective as a short-term intervention for attachment and behavioral problems in infants and young children. It is also useful as a longer-term intervention and can be used adjunct to other therapies. Most importantly, by involving the parent directly in the child's therapy it benefits the relationship between infant/child and parent. The Manual describes the rational and therapeutic goals of WWW, its history and development, and the developmental considerations in its application.--Child Development Media, Inc. website.
