cadence education human resources: The Leader in Me Stephen R. Covey, 2012-12-11 Children in today's world are inundated with information about who to be, what to do and how to live. But what if there was a way to teach children how to manage priorities, focus on goals and be a positive influence on the world around them? The Leader in Meis that programme. It's based on a hugely successful initiative carried out at the A.B. Combs Elementary School in North Carolina. To hear the parents of A. B Combs talk about the school is to be amazed. In 1999, the school debuted a programme that taught The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Peopleto a pilot group of students. The parents reported an incredible change in their children, who blossomed under the programme. By the end of the following year the average end-of-grade scores had leapt from 84 to 94. This book will launch the message onto a much larger platform. Stephen R. Covey takes the 7 Habits, that have already changed the lives of millions of people, and shows how children can use them as they develop. Those habits -- be proactive, begin with the end in mind, put first things first, think win-win, seek to understand and then to be understood, synergize, and sharpen the saw -- are critical skills to learn at a young age and bring incredible results, proving that it's never too early to teach someone how to live well. |

cadence education human resources: Cultivating Entrepreneurial Changemakers Through Digital Media Education Byrd, Leslie Simone, 2021-01-22 The role of the journalist has been significantly altered and is far beyond that of being just a “reporter” of news in modern times. Social entrepreneurship is rooted in a venture that seeks to create revenue while being anchored in providing social value to the communities the enterprise serves. Combining these creates the concept of a social newspreneur, which takes elements of the old business model and creates new opportunities. In this way, media can be reformed by everyday people who have a vision for restoring trust and facilitating alternative activities to inspire civic engagement in new and unique ways. As such, journalism program administrators have realized that the time has come to alter and provide innovative educational opportunities that prepare students for careers outside of traditional employment. Entrepreneurship education across the disciplines is quickly becoming the status quo on today's college campuses. However, in making these curricular changes, faculty must engage in significant assessment of these new approaches to ensure that students are obtaining a return on their investment in the college education and degree that they seek. Cultivating Entrepreneurial Changemakers Through Digital Media Education is a crucial reference book that cultivates timely and relevant practices in the development of improved teaching methods, assessments, information delivery, and technological tools that are used to facilitate and support the social entrepreneurship and digital journalism education space. It explores the role of media innovation and how the landscape is ripe for the influx of social entrepreneurs, or the rise of the social newspreneur. The chapters cover areas such as methods used in journalism programs, social entrepreneurship in course design, educational technologies, student learning outcomes, and how these programs foster civic engagement. This book is a valuable reference tool for university faculty, university administrators, news organization leaders, journalists, reporters, broadcasting agencies, professors, practitioners, stakeholders, researchers, academicians, and students. |

cadence education human resources: Adelita Tomie dePaola, 2002-09-16 Hace mucho tiempo—a long time ago—there lived a beautiful young woman named Adelita. So begins the age-old tale of a kindhearted young woman, her jealous stepmother, two hateful stepsisters, and a young man in search of a wife. The young man, Javier, falls madly in love with beautiful Adelita, but she disappears from his fiesta at midnight, leaving him with only one clue to her hidden identity: a beautiful rebozo—shawl. With the rebozo in place of a glass slipper, this favorite fairy tale takes a delightful twist. Tomie dePaola's exquisite paintings, filled with the folk art of Mexico, make this a Cinderella story like no other. Please note that the majority of this text is in English, with Spanish vocabulary throughout. |

Cole, 2022-10-25 This book explores higher education leadership during times of extreme pressures and limited, changing information. Organized around different functional units in higher education institutions, chapters describe the ways in which campus communities were affected by and responded to the early pandemic crisis. By unpacking observations of real leaders from American institutions of higher education during the COVID-19 pandemic, this book provides lessons learned and takeaway strategies for complex decision-making during a crisis. This edited collection explores the unique moment when leaders and teams must make, implement, and adjust plans rapidly to assure delivery of their missions, while still addressing the needs of students, parents, employees, and stakeholders. Shining a bright light on decision-making in the early acute stage of a crisis, this book prepares higher education educators to be effective leaders and successful decision-makers. |
cadence education human resources: Broken Paul LeBlanc, 2022-09-27 Many of the systems built to serve people instead do more harm than good. In Broken, Dr. Paul LeBlanc, president of Southern New Hampshire University, draws on his experience working in one such system—education—to reconnect us to the human facets of serving people. In doing so, he charts a course for rebuilding and reinhabiting better systems across education, healthcare, criminal justice, government, and more. The United States spends enormous sums on helping people—$3.8 trillion on healthcare, $182 billion on prisons, and $604 billion on higher education—and yet these systems routinely fail us. When we seek to improve how they function, our efforts focus on policy debates, technical solutions, funding, and data. But if these systems are to truly improve, we have to start with the human values that fuel decision making. Broken explores the deeply human dimensions we must consider—aspiring, discovering, mattering—if we want to rebuild the policies, technologies, processes, and, most importantly, the heart we use to serve people. Over the course of 25 years as a college and university president and higher education innovator, Paul LeBlanc, PhD, has encountered innumerable wonderful people who want to do the right thing for students but whose efforts cannot overcome the shortcomings of the system. Now, he shares what he’s learned, and continues to learn, about the opportunities and necessity to put humanity and care at the center of all our systems. With Broken, LeBlanc outlines the distinctly human questions that education—and all systems that serve—must start asking to reframe what is broken in order to make lasting repairs and to better care for those they serve. |

cadence education human resources: Performance Management Transformation Elaine Diane Pulakos, Mariangela Battista, 2020 No other talent process has been the subject of such great debate and emotion as performance management (PM). For decades, different strategies have been tried to improve PM processes, yielding an endless cycle of reform to capture the next Flavor of the Day PM trend. The past five years, however, have brought novel thinking that is different than past trends. Companies are reducing their formal processes, driving performance-based cultures, and embedding effective PM behavior into daily work rather than relying on annual reviews to drive these. Through case studies provided from leading organizations, this book illustrates the range of PM processes that companies are using today. These show a shift away from adopting someone else's best practice and instead, companies are designing bespoke PM processes that fit their specific strategy, climate, and needs. Leading PM thought leaders offer their views about the state of PM today, what we've learned and where we need to focus future efforts, including provocative new research that shows what matters most in driving high performance. This book is as a call to action for talent management professionals to go beyond traditional best practice and provide thought leadership in designing PM processes and systems that will enhance both individual and organizational performance-- |

cadence education human resources: Fugitive Pedagogy Jarvis R. Givens, 2021-04-13 A fresh portrayal of one of the architects of the African American intellectual tradition, whose faith in the subversive power of education will inspire teachers and learners today. Black education was a subversive act from its inception. African Americans pursued education through clandestine means, often in defiance of law and custom, even under threat of violence. They developed what Jarvis Givens calls a tradition of “fugitive pedagogy”—a theory and practice of Black education in America. The enslaved learned to read in spite of widespread prohibitions; newly emancipated people braved the dangers of integrating all-White schools and the hardships of building Black schools. Teachers developed covert instructional strategies, creative responses to the persistence of White opposition. From slavery through the Jim Crow era, Black people passed down this educational heritage. There is perhaps no better exemplar of this heritage than Carter G. Woodson—groundbreaking historian, founder of Black History Month, and legendary educator under Jim Crow. Givens shows that Woodson succeeded because of the world of Black teachers to which he belonged: Woodson’s first teachers were his formerly enslaved uncles; he himself taught for nearly thirty years; and he spent his life partnering with educators to transform the lives of Black students. Fugitive Pedagogy chronicles Woodson’s efforts to fight against the “mis-education of the Negro” by helping teachers and students to see themselves and their mission as set apart from an anti-Black world. Teachers, students, families, and communities worked together, using Woodson’s materials and methods as they fought for power in schools and continued the work of fugitive pedagogy. Forged in slavery, embodied by Woodson, this tradition of escape remains essential for teachers and students today. |
cadence education human resources: Higher Education Beyond COVID Regan A. R. Gurung, Dwaine Plaza, 2023-11-14 This book illustrates how higher education responded to the COVID-19 pandemic and grew from it. The pandemic impacted faculty development, drew a greater focus on the measurement of effective teaching in higher education, and provided a better understanding of what was needed to better aid educators in colleges and universities nationwide. The stage is set for a more resilient higher education with chapters illustrating new paradigms and promise. Three themes are highlighted throughout this volume. Authors underscore the need to explore different modalities of delivery for faculty development and instruction, to enhance the leverage of technology in course design, and to refine faculty development for holistic development. Pulling together empirical data on college faculty administration, and student responses to the pandemic, chapter authors address the unique issues faced by educators and highlight successes and challenges in working with existing Centers for Teaching and Learning (CTLs) and information technology structures. Featuring contributions from diverse institutions, each chapter provides specific guidelines and recommendations for higher education to set the stage for innovation and change. Laying the groundwork for the design of more effective models of faculty development for higher education, this book is a valuable resource for higher education administrators and faculty to improve higher education going forward. |
