calculus of a single variable ap edition: Advanced Calculus (Revised Edition) Lynn Harold Loomis, Shlomo Zvi Sternberg, 2014-02-26 An authorised reissue of the long out of print classic textbook, Advanced Calculus by the late Dr Lynn Loomis and Dr Shlomo Sternberg both of Harvard University has been a revered but hard to find textbook for the advanced calculus course for decades. This book is based on an honors course in advanced calculus that the authors gave in the 1960's. The foundational material, presented in the unstarred sections of Chapters 1 through 11, was normally covered, but different applications of this basic material were stressed from year to year, and the book therefore contains more material than was covered in any one year. It can accordingly be used (with omissions) as a text for a year's course in advanced calculus, or as a text for a three-semester introduction to analysis. The prerequisites are a good grounding in the calculus of one variable from a mathematically rigorous point of view, together with some acquaintance with linear algebra. The reader should be familiar with limit and continuity type arguments and have a certain amount of mathematical sophistication. As possible introductory texts, we mention Differential and Integral Calculus by R Courant, Calculus by T Apostol, Calculus by M Spivak, and Pure Mathematics by G Hardy. The reader should also have some experience with partial derivatives. In overall plan the book divides roughly into a first half which develops the calculus (principally the differential calculus) in the setting of normed vector spaces, and a second half which deals with the calculus of differentiable manifolds. |
calculus of a single variable ap edition: Single Variable Calculus with Vector Functions for AP* Calculus James Stewart, 2006-03 Stewart's SINGLE VARIABLE CALCULUS WITH VECTOR FUNCTIONS has the mathematical precision, accuracy, clarity of exposition and outstanding examples and problem sets that characterized all of James Stewarts texts. In this new text, Stewart focuses on problem solving, using the pedagogical system that has worked so well for students in a wide variety of academic settings throughout the world. |

Tucker, Joseph Thrash, Karen R. Rhea, Andrew Pasquale, Sheldon P. Gordon, Douglas Quinney, Patti Frazer Lock, 1997-10-24 A revision of the best selling innovative Calculus text on the market. Functions are presented graphically, numerically, algebraically, and verbally to give readers the benefit of alternate interpretations. The text is problem driven with exceptional exercises based on real world applications from engineering, physics, life sciences, and economics. Revised edition features new sections on limits and continuity, limits, l'Hopital's Rule, and relative growth rates, and hyperbolic functions. |

calculus of a single variable ap edition: Advanced Calculus of Several Variables C. H. Edwards, 2014-05-10 Advanced Calculus of Several Variables provides a conceptual treatment of multivariable calculus. This book emphasizes the interplay of geometry, analysis through linear algebra, and approximation of nonlinear mappings by linear ones. The classical applications and computational methods that are responsible for much of the interest and importance of calculus are also considered. This text is organized into six chapters. Chapter I deals with linear algebra and geometry of Euclidean n-space Rn. The multivariable differential calculus is treated in Chapters II and III, while multivariable integral calculus is covered in Chapters IV and V. The last chapter is devoted to venerable problems of the calculus of variations. This publication is intended for students who have completed a standard introductory calculus sequence. |
calculus of a single variable ap edition: Calculus James Stewart, 1995 In this version of his best-selling text, Stewart has reorganized the material so professors can teach transcendental functions (more than just trigonometric functions) early, before the definite integral. This variation introduces the derivative of the log and exponential functions at the same time as the polynomial functions and develops other transcendental functions prior to the introduction of the definite integral..In the new Third Edition, Stewart retains the focus on problem solving, the meticulous accuracy, the patient explanations, and the carefully graded problems that have made this text work so well for a wide range of students. In the new edition, Stewart has increased his emphasis on technology and innovation and has expanded his focus on problem-solving and applications. ..When writing his previous editions, Stewart set out to bring some of the spirit of Polya to his presentation. This resulted in the ''strategy sections'' in the First Edition and the ''Problems Plus'' and ''Applications Plus'' sections in the Second Edition. Now in the Third Edition, he extends the idea further with a new section on ''Principles of Problem Solving'' and new extended examples in the ''Problems Plus'' and ''Applications Plus'' sections. Stewart makes a serious attempt to help students reason mathematically. |

calculus of a single variable ap edition: The Integration of Functions of a Single Variable G H Hardy, 2019-06-15 From the PREFACETHIS tract has been long out of print, and there is still some demand for it. I did not publish a second edition before, because I intended to incorporate its contents in a larger treatise on the subject which I had arranged to write in collaboration with Dr. Bromwich. Four or five years have passed, and it seems very doubtful whether either of us will ever find the time to carry out our intention. I have therefore decided to republish the tract. The new edition differs from the first in one important point only. In the first edition I reproduced a proof of Abel's which Mr. J. E. Littlewood afterwards discovered to be invalid. The correction of this error has led me to rewrite a few sections (pp. 36-41 of the present edition) completely. The proof which I give now is due to Mr. H. T. J. Norton. I am also indebted to Mr. Norton, and to Mr. S. Pollard, for many other criticisms of a less important character.--G. H. H |
